Reaction of phosgene with diazomethane in the molar ratio 1:2 permitted the first synthesis of diazoacetyl chloride (3). Compound (3) decomposes only slowly below 0°C and is an excellent diazoacetylation reagent. The long‐sought diazoketene N 2 CCO could be generated in solution from (3) and diazbicyclooctane.
