The analytical application of ESR spectroscopy could acquire general importance. The hydroquinone (1) is suitable for complexation of the heavy metals to be detected. The complexes of (1) with Pb 2+ ,Zn 2+ , and Cd 2+ “extracted” from the aqueous phase were oxidized to paramagnetic π‐systems and determined by ESR spectroscopy.
