Molybdenum serves as spiro‐atom in the complex (3) formed from (1) , R CH 3 , and PhMgBr in the molar ratio of 1:2. One of the two CO groups is transformed into C,O ‐coordinated benzaldehyde. Ring contraction (1) → (2) is already known.
