Protection of the OH function by the benzyl group and mild removal of this protective group are of great preparative interest. In the case of the radical cations of the new polybrominated triarylamines (1) , X, Y = H, Br, the oxidation potential suffices for cleavage of benzyl ethers under relatively mild conditions.
