The first complex to contain the bidentate ligand [H N O] 2− has been isolated and characterized. Mo VI oxo anions react with hydroxylamine and terpyridine (tpy)to give a yellow cation (1) which can be isolated as the perchlorate. The red neutral complex (2) is formed reversibly from (1) and cyanide.
