An organometallic 8 π system (2) could be generated by reaction of (1) with trimethylsilylmethylpotassium. The intermediate (2) is moderately stable at −50°C and reacts with MeI to give (3) and (4) . E Me (1:1), and with Me 3 SiCl to give (4) , E Me 3 Si.
