No analogy between molybdenum and tungsten is observed in the reaction of η 7 ‐C 7 H 7 M(CO) 2 X (1) with NaOR: (1) , M = Mo, forms the paramagnetic compound (2) with two Mo centers in different oxidation states. In the case of (1) , M = W, however, a C 7 H 7 ligand is surprisingly reduced to C 7 H 8 by H − ; the 18‐electron rule applies to both W atoms in (3) .
