Formation of ion pair by solvation is invoked to explain the 1 H‐NMR spectral result obtained for (1) and the analogous cyclonatetraene derivative. Thus (1) is capable of not only intramolecular exchange [ (1′) ⇄ (1) ] but also intermolecular exchange of substituents ( e.g in HMPT as doner solventDo).
