The directed synthesis of 5,5′‐biazulenyl (2) (bluish‐black crystals) has been accomplished by Ziegler‐Hafner reaction from the pentamethinium salt (1) , XClO 4 , and cyclopentadiene. A dark‐red bisfulvene is formed as intermediate.
