A new route to complexed isocyanides —including those with strongly electronegative substituents which were previously inaccessible, e.g. CNCCl 3 —is seen in the accompanying reaction scheme. The aryl radical ArN N • or Ar • reacts with the solvent H R via H abstraction; the resulting R • combines with the radical cyano complex.
