A Pd 2 Mo 2 cluster —the very first heteropolymetallic Pd cluster to be obtained—has been synthesized in 75% yield from [Mo(η 5 ‐C 5 H 5 )(CO) 3 ] − and trans ‐Pd(PEt 3 ) 2 C1 2 . As shown by X‐ray structure analysis, the Pd atoms of this compound have the unusual coordination number 8. Moreover, only one example of a planar triangulated cluster ([Re 4 (CO) 16 ] 2− ) was formerly known.
