The new 1,3,2λ 5 ‐thiazaphosphetidine ring is present in the bicyclic compound (2) , which is formed from the azaphospole (1) and isothiocyanates. Depending upon the substituents and conditions the bicyclic compound (3) and/or a monocyclic phosphonium thiocyanate is formed alongside or instead of (2) .
