Oxidation of L (+)‐ascorbic acid to the radical anion has now been studied in the presence of diarylthallium hydroxides. The complexed radical anions are very stable; their half‐lives are of the order of days. The ESR spectrum even permits quantitative determination of L (+)‐ascorbic acid.
