Oxidative fluorination with gaseous fluorine , which proceeds without significant formation of side products in the case of tertiary phosphanes, has now been applied to the higher homologs. Largely successful suppression of element‐carbon bond cleavage is surprising in the light of the decrease in the EC bond strength on going from P to Bi.
