The synthetic utility of intermolecular aldol reactions was formerly limited by side reactions. Enantioselective reaction of ketones R 1 COCH 3 with ketones R 2 R 3 CO to give the products (2) via the (known) chiral hydrazones (1) has now been accomplished.
