2,1,3‐Benzothiadiazinylium cations of type (1) , which have now been synthesized for the first time, formally represent a transition between the purely inorganic cations S 4 N 3 + , S 4 N 4 2+ , S 5 N 5 +and the organic thiapyrylium cations. The (N‐1)S bond functions as dienophile.
