Parallel and othogonal π systems are both present in the naphthalenophane (2) synthesized from (1) , R = H, via (1) , R = Br. The effect of bracketing can be studied in isolation for (1) and (2) since the two phenylene rings are already in a “face‐to‐face” arrangement in (1) .
