Alkynylamines RCCNR   1 2have been known for only a few years. They are stable compounds, some of which have now become commercially available. Their high reactivity toward electrophiles as well as toward nucleophiles (particularly on acid catalysis) makes them very versatile starting materials. An interesting practical application is their use as condensing agents in peptide syntheses. They are superior to dicycloexylcarbodiimide as dehydrating agents for organic acids. They condense with polar multiple bonds and dipolar systems to form cyclic structures.
