Experimental techniques are described for the preparation of transcurium elements. Nuclear reactions with heavy ions appear to be most promising for the preparation of new transcurium elements and isotopes. Since these nuclear reactions have extremely small cross‐sections, only few atoms will be produced. Owing to their short half‐lives, the heaviest nuclei can presumably be identified only indirectly through the probabilities of their formation and distintegration.
