In the following, solid‐state reactions between ionic crystals are described. The vast field of powder reactions will not be discussed, since various parameters such as particle size distribution and packing density are difficult to determine exactly. The result of this is, that it is almost impossible to establish the mechanisms of solid‐state powder reactions unambiguously and derive general expressions for reaction rates.
