Durch Anregung mit nahinfrarotem Licht (980 nm) können PEGylierte W 18 O 49 ‐Nanodrähte die Bildung von Singulettsauerstoff und damit reaktiven Sauerstoffspezies (ROS) sensibilisieren. Der daraus resultierende PDT‐Effekt kann zur Zerstörung von Tumoren in Abwesenheit organischer Photosensibilisatoren führen. PEG=Polyethylenglycol, PDT=photodynamische Therapie, PTT=photothermale Therapie.
