Auf direktem Weg : Heterofullerene mit eingebautem Bor sind nur wenig erforscht, da keine Bildungsroute ausgehend von C 60 bekannt ist. Nun wurde gefunden, dass C 59 B − , eine elektronisch geschlossenschalige Spezies, durch einfache Atomaustauschreaktionen aus unbehandeltem C 60 in der Gasphase gebildet wird.
