Nicht Octa‐, sondern Nonaketid : Die Polyketid‐Synthase SgcE, die einen neungliedrigen Endiin‐Kern enthält, synthetisiert ein Nonaketid in Abwesenheit jeglicher Hilfsproteine (siehe Schema). Dies widerspricht dem bisherigen Vorschlag, demzufolge die Synthase mit Unterstützung einer Thioesterase ein Octaketid erzeugt. Die katalytische Wirkungsweise der Polyketid‐Synthase muss folglich neu beschrieben werden. CoA=Coenzym A.
