Eine hoch polare hypervalente S IV ‐S II ‐Bindung wird bei der Synthese eines schwefelsubstituierten Sulfurans gebildet (siehe Schema), das kristallographisch charakterisiert wurde. Die Reduktion des 1,2‐Dithietans ergibt das entsprechende Thiol, und erneute Oxidation stellt das Sulfuran wieder her. Die thermische Zersetzung führt zu einem cyclischen Sulfenat und einem Thiiran.
