The total cross section of the capture reaction n + p → d + γ has been measured at E n = 25 MeV using a hydrogen gas target containing two multiwire proportional counters and a scintillation counter telescope. The resulting value δ tot = (26.6 ± 1.5) μ b is in line with the other n ‐ p capture data in the energy range 14‐73 MeV. The experimental data are compared with theoretical predictions.
