Field‐theory arguments are given in favour of a quantum resolution limit Δ x ≳ GM in the region occupied by a black hole of mass M . A hierarchical formation of black holes inside a black hole is suggested and some reasons supporting the picture that a black hole is nothing but an “excited state of vacuum” are advanced.
