It is shown that the experimentally observed velocity profiles and drag coefficients may be explained on the basis of autocatalytic models which lead to reaction‐diffusion equations for the exchange quantity. The first (zero) solution of these equations corresponds to the laminar flow and the second one (different from zero) corresponds to the turbulent flow.
