Propagation of Yang‐Mills fields is considered both in the absence and presence of gauge‐fixing terms in the Lagrangian as well as when the symmetry is spontaneously broken. Propagation is found to be causal except in certain non‐covariant gauges when noncausal propagation can also occur.
