The problem of the optical binding energy of the excition is considered in terms of the many particle theory for the crystal electrons. The kernel of the Bethe‐Salpeter‐Equation for the polarization function is approximated to second order in the screened C OULOMB potential V s . The quadratic terms are studied in order to obtain corrections of the optical binding energy of an exciton. These corrections are discussed and compared with other modifications of the linear V s ‐approximation and with experimental results.
