Abstract The interaction of nonrelativistic particles with a scalar Bosefield is considered. By Feynman's disentangling procedure the Bosefield is eliminated, giving rise to an effective interaction between the particles which depends on two times. This interaction is approximated by a time‐independent Hamiltonian, which is to be determined selfconsistently. As special cases a Brueckner‐type self‐consistent field equation for several particles as well as Pekar's self energie expression for the polaron are obtained.
