As a result of the strong interaction of electrons with the lattice, the transition of the electrons from the principal zone to the zone of conductivity of the semiconductor involves a large number of electrons. In this process the energy necessary for the intershell transition is compensated by re‐arrangement of the other electrons of the group. Therefore the electron group transitions always occur isoenergetically and consequently non‐radiatively. Nearly all complex processes known at present to occur in solid luminophores can be explained in the light of a group transition of this kind.
