The activities of complex I and complex II/III in platelet mitochondria are reduced in patients with early, untreated Parkinson's disease. Coenzyme Q 10 is the electron acceptor for complex I and complex II. We found that the level of coenzyme Q 10 was significantly lower in mitochondria from parkinsonian patients than in mitochondria from age‐ and sex‐matched control subjects and that the levels of coenzyme Q 10 and the activities of complex I and complex II/III were significantly correlated.
