A new Netherlands‐based initiative intends to certify mediators' training, qualifications, and general fitness for the work they do. The International Mediation Institute is soliciting comments this month on its proposed standards. Regular Alternatives contributor Judith Meyer, of Haverford, Pa., is an officer of the commission overseeing the efforts, and describes why the effort is underway and what it hopes to accomplish.
