Commingling in mixed burials is generally detected through the discovery of duplicate elements or bony evidence of sex, age, or statural differences in the recovered bones. In cases where the suspected commingling involves closely similar individuals and the total skeletal parts total less than one individual, it is important to consider the possibility that the recovered assemblage, through chance, may consist of non‐duplicated elements. A method of statistically assessing the probability of such an event is presented.
