On water : An environmentally benign one‐pot tandem reaction for the synthesis of 2‐arylbenzimidazoles using a π‐benzylpalladium system on water was developed. The reaction afforded the desired products in moderate to excellent yields from readily available ortho ‐phenylenediamines and benzyl alcohols. This base‐free simple protocol can achieve the dehydrogenation of benzyl alcohols under mild conditions, whereas strong bases are essential in general hydrogen‐transfer strategies. Notably, the “on water” protocol is essential for this synthetic method.
