An organocatalytic microwave‐assisted reaction of isatin derivatives with dinitrotoluenes has been developed to provide access to variety of 3‐substituted 3‐hydroxy‐2‐oxindoles. In addition, DFT calculations were employed to understand the reactivity differences of the various nitrotoluene derivatives.
