N‐Heterocyclic carbene (NHC)‐catalyzed synthesis of highly functionalized pyrano[3,2‐ c ]chromene‐2,5‐dione derivatives, pyrano[3,2‐ c ]quinoline‐2,5(6 H )‐dione derivatives, and pyrano[4,3‐ b ]pyran‐2,5‐dione derivatives with potential biological activities is reported. The reaction occurs through a Knoevenagel condensation and NHC‐catalyzed enolate addition in one pot.
