C‐3Pd : A direct C3 acylation of benzofurans and benzothiophenes by sp 2 CH activation catalyzed by palladium acetate is reported. tert ‐Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) is used as the oxidant and aldehydes are used as aroyl sources to give the desired products in excellent yields. This cross‐dehydrogenative coupling reaction provides practical access to 3‐acylbenzofurans and 3‐acylbenzothiophenes.
