Bowled over : An aryl–aryl coupled sumanene dimer, bisumanenyl, was synthesized. Variable temperature NMR studies indicate that bisumanenyl seems to be present as a single isomer despite the inherently rich isomerism of such π bowls. The extension of π conjugation in bisumanenyl was shown from the absorption and emission spectra.
