Zeka et al. [2003] recently considered the role of underlying ventilatory obstruction (as measured by spirometry) in predicting short term airflow obstruction resulting in from inhalation of metal working fluid aerosols. The authors found no clear relationship between acute responses and pre‐existing ventilatory obstruction, in contrast to findings from an earlier study [Robins et al., 1997].
