The recent random‐pore model (Bhatia and Perlmutter, 1980, 1981a; Gavalas, 1980) is further developed to account for distributed pore reaction in gas‐solid systems. Numerical solutions for the resulting equations are presented for the case when the reaction is accompanied by an increase in volume of the solid phase. It is shown that in such situations pore closure begins with the smaller pores and progresses to the larger ones. For certain pore size distributions seemingly incomplete conversion is found even when sufficient initial porosity exists so that complete pore closure cannot occur.
