This is a comprehensive availability analysis of conventional, vapor recompression and SRV (secondary reflux and vaporization) distillation. The physical significance of different availability losses is interpreted, and the magnitude and distribution of these losses in an ethyleneethane separation are shown. Also discussed is how they may be reduced by design modifications.
