Aged CoO/MoO 3 /SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 catalyst pellets, used in a pilot plant for the single‐stage liquefaction and hydrodesulfurization of coal, were analyzed with an electron microprobe and scanning electron microscope. The results demonstrate the occurrence of catalyst aging processes which could lead to bed plugging and pore mouth blocking.
