Abstract The problem of transient multicomponent diffusion of an arbitrary number of components in one‐dimension with heterogeneous reaction has been solved exactly by means of the Laplace transform. Linearized expressions for the diffusion and reaction were used. Numerical evaluations of the solution are given and a comparison made with results derived by use of an effective diffusivity.
