Small particle collection in packed beds is described by an inertial impaction theory which fits experimental observations. Rings, saddles, spheres, and spherical packing of 1/2‐, 1‐, and 1 1/2‐in. size were used at air velocities up to 30 ft./sec. for the collection of an oil mist of known size. Particle collection efficiencies up to 50% for 1.0‐micron particles were obtained.
