Cover illustration. The transition to sustainable energy is a major societal challenge. Currently, the chemical industry relies on coal, gas and oil for energy and carbon sources. In the future, renewable energy (e.g., from wind and solar), renewable feedstocks (e.g., biomass), carbon capture, recycling, energy storage and demand side management are envisioned to play a major role. Process Systems Engineering plays a key role in this transition.
