Abstract Polymer melt processing requires an integration of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, with unique issues regarding boundary conditions, phase change, stability and sensitivity, and melt rheology. Simulation has been useful in industrial melt processing applications. This brief overview is a personal perspective on some of the issues that arise and how they have been addressed. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2009
