Dual function electrochemical devices with ion gel that fulfill both energy storage and light emission are herein reported. When operated in an energy storage mode, the devices show specific capacitance of 1.75 mF cm −2 and good cycling life. Under alternative current bias (light emission mode), the same devices emit light through electrochemical redox reactions.
