Redox targeting concept is applied to address some key challenges in the operation of rechargeable lithium–sulfur batteries: the limited conductivity of the sulfur electrode without the use of conductivity additive; and the meddlesome volume expansion in S to Li 2 S transformation that degrades the electrical integration of the sulfur electrode with the current collector.
