The relationship between the composition, electrochemical properties, and mechanical properties of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and its impact on the performance of lithium‐ion batteries are investigated. The insightful information obtained can support the design of artificial SEI layers for highcapacity electrodes with improved cycle efficiency and life.
